RANGOLI

The Festivals of Lights-Diwali was in the beginning of this month(november)

You all must have done a lot of craft and art related to diwali in school-

You must have made cards ,diyas, torans. lanterns and many more things.

Mum must have made rangoli at home.Heres a little about rangoli-

Rangoli is an ancient traditional Indian art form.It is a brightly coloured

design on the floor created using different materials such as coloured

powders, seeds and grains flower petals and paints.Rangoli symbolises a

warm welcome and good luck.Rangoli designs have simple geometrical patterns

to highly intricate images.

Simple steps to make a rangoli-Make dots equidistance and then the

pattern(see picture below)

HOW TO MAKE AN AQUARIUM WITH PAPER

Things needed:  1.  Blue paint in a bowl.

2. A spoon of shampoo and a straw to blow.

3.  A4 size paper- you can use old chart paper/news paper.

4.  Fish cut out

5. Glue.

Method:     1. Put the paint in the bowl with a little water and shampoo

and blow gently into the solution ( see picture)

blue color bubbles

2. Take the paper ,hold it with both hands above the bubbles formed ,as

you blow.Move the paper up,down and sideways, making sure the

bubbles touch all sides of the paper. You will have a water effect on

the paper. You can use other colours(See the picture below)

bubbles on paper

3. Now take the cut outs of the fish and colour them.

Then stick the fish on the paper with the bubbles.Your aquarium

is ready. You can draw sea weed with green paint.(  See the picture below)

Another idea for your aquarium-

You can make a border around the paper and pin it on your board in

your room.

WATER POLLUTION AND HOW WE CAN HELP KEEPING WATER CLEAN

What is water pollution?

Did you know that the water we use is the same water that dinosaurs

used millions of years ago.We need water to live. There are natural water

cycles which keep our water clean.Water pollution happens when we

contaminate our water bodies(e.g. lakes, rivers ,oceans and the ground

water.)Water covers about 70% of the earth’s surface. It is an important

resource for all living things and the environment.Water pollution is a

problem because it kills the fish and other living organisms that live in water.

If  all the marine  life dies, so will much of the human food source will finish.

Pearl of wisdom: DON’T POLLUTE WATER !

I am going to put a youtube about water pollution and how we all can

make a little effort to avoid water pollution. Its very simple. All we have

to do is to be conscious about water- a very valuable resource.

The youtube is by “turtlediary.com”

Now wasn’t that an interesting video?Let’s each one of us promise to do

our little bit in our own way to save every drop of water which is our

life and also try not to pollute water.Go to the art and craft and we will

make an aquarium -remember , by using waste material

HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN CLOUDS IN A BOTTLE

We have talked about the rainy season, water and its importance, and

about water conservation.Kids, let’s do another easy experiment…..and

make our own clouds! We all have seen clouds up in the sky. They are formed

when the water vapour mixes with the cool air and the tiny dust particles.

During the rainy season the clouds are dark and scary.Otherwise we see

them like lots of  cotton patches.Have you ever just spent time just looking

up at clouds in the sky?You can imagine all kinds of animals and  things.

You must have looked out from the aeroplane window when the plane is above the

clouds.Didn’t you feel like just jumping and catching the lovely soft cotton.

Next time your friend comes home look up at the clouds and see what

you can imagine up there in the sky.

clouds and water

In the above pictures,  have fun imagining different figures, you and your

friend can see in the clouds…..you’ll be surprised!

EXPERIMENT

HOW TO MAKE  CLOUDS IN A BOTTLE

You will need:

1. a clear glass bottle

2. hot water

3. a plastic cover and rubberband to hold it as a lid

4.  match box and ice cubes

LOOK AT THE PICTURE BELOW

cloud in bottle

METHOD:

1.    Put hot water in the bottle(fill only 1/4 of the bottle).Make sure

mum is with you.

2.    Burn a match stick and drop it gently into the bottle of hot water.

3.   Cover the bottle with plastic and put the rubberband around the

opening to close the bottle.

4.   Put the ice cubes on top of the plastic and observe.

RESULT:

As the steam rises from the hot water and reaches the top of the

bottle, clouds can be seen when the steam touches the cold plastic

surface. The real clouds are also formed in a similar way- when water

vapours from the sea rise upwards and reach the cooler layers of the sky.

It is a magical world- take care of it.

Evaporation and Condensation

We have already learnt a lot about water and how we should use it

carefully.Today ,we will do a very basic/simple experiment.

You must have heard the two big words -evaporation and condensation.

Water is magical -when in liquid form ,it can flow and take the shape of the

container it is in- a  glass, a bowl  or a bottle.Go ahead and try.

Make sure you do this in a basin so that water does’t spill -or else mum

may get angry.

bottle glass full of water   bowl of water

When you put it in the freezer it turns solid ….ice, and takes the shape

of the container it is put into-try it yourself.

Now ,when water is boiled- it turns into steam, which is water in vapour

form.

With its strong rays, the sun is continously changing water into vapour and

taking it up in the sky-this is called evaporation.

When this vapour mixes with the cold air in the sky it forms water

droplets.This is called condensation.

Condensation-when hot touches cold like you can see in the picture

condensation

kettle steam/gas

EXPERIMENT:                    Evaporation and Condensation

Things needed:      1- A vessel of water

2-Stove to boil the water

3-Clear glass bowl which fits on the vessel of water

Method:     Remember you need an adult with you and keep safe distance-

1-Light the stove and boil the water -let the steam come out

2- Put off the stove.Carefully remove the vessel with the

boiling water and put it on a table.

3  Now gently place the clear, dry glass bowl on the vessel.

4  Observe.

Result:      On boiling, the water turns to steam/ water vapour  and

rises up.When it touches the glass bowl which is not hot the vapour

changes into water droplets which you can see.Slowly you will see the

bowl full of water droplets and they sliding down.

Children, this is how we get rain .Water vapour rises up into the sky-mixes

with the cold air to form water droplets, which form the clouds.Rain

comes from the clouds.Wasn’t that exciting?

Look at the pictures:

drawing for expt

bowl one on topThis is how your bowl will be and you will

see the water droplets on the top bowl, slowly sliding down.

Have fun kids!Like i told you ,call your friends-learning is great while

sharing.

Next time we will make our own clouds .Bye till then.

Isn’t it a magical world?Should we not take care of our world?
